Image processing basics (Part 4)
In order to understand forensic enhancement software, it is important to have some basic image processing knowledge. In this series of five blogposts, we will explain more about basic terms that are at the roots of forensic image and video enhancement.
The fourth topic that will be covered is:
How does basic contrast enhancement work?
Contrast enhancement is optimizing the difference between pixel values in an image. This can be helpful for images which are very dark or very light and/or have low contrast. The image histogram is a useful tool to determine how you should enhance the contrast since there are many ways of doing this.
In the video below, two contrast enhancement options are explained: stretch and equalization.
