In order to understand forensic enhancement software, it is important to have some basic image processing knowledge. In this series of five blogposts, we will explain more about basic terms that are at the roots of forensic image and video enhancement.
In this fifth and final week, we will look into the following question:
How does basic image filtering work?
Image filtering is a technique that can be used to enhance the visibility of an image. This can be done by highlighting or eliminating features. There are a lot of different filters that can be used to increase the visibility of images. One example that will be explored in this blog post, is the average filter. This filter can be used to remove noise from an image. For this, we have to take a look at the pixel value and its immediate surroundings.
